I’m excited to share a project we are incredibly excited about and directly tied to the unique language we use every day in our profession:

The Law Enforcement Dictionary.

This isn’t your typical reference guide. It’s a comprehensive, community-powered collection of terms, jargon, and slang used by officers, deputies, investigators, and legal professionals across the criminal justice system—especially those words and phrases that never make it into standard glossaries.

Here’s where you come in.

I’m inviting you to share uncommon, regional, or department-specific law enforcement terms that deserve a place in this dictionary. Whether it’s slang used on patrol, code words in dispatch, or investigative lingo in the field, your contribution will help preserve and share the culture of policing.

If your submission is selected for inclusion, we’ll proudly recognize you on a special Contributors Page in the published dictionary—a small but meaningful thank-you for helping shape this unique resource.

To contribute:
Simply fill out this quick form
Please include:

  • Your name as you want it to appear in the dictionary (Optional)
  • The term
  • A definition or explanation
  • A sentence how the word would be used

Please note the deadline for submissions is June 22nd. 2025

Let’s make this dictionary an authentic reflection of our profession—built by those who live it.

Thank you for your service and support,

Anthony Bandiero
Attorney & Senior Legal Instructor
